Words that Create: Part 3

Let's begin today's teaching with our foundational text for the series. Proverbs 6:2 says, you are trapped by the words of your mouth: you are ensnared by the words of your mouth.

Live in the Authority of God's Word.

Psalm 1:2-3 reads, 2 But his delight is in Yahweh’s law. On his law he meditates day and night. 3 He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water that produces its fruit in its season whose leaf also does not wither (World English Bible).

Live in the Power of God's Word.

Hebrews 4:12 reads, 12 For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart (World English Bible).

Live in the Power of God's Spoken Word.

Isaiah 55:11 reads, 11 so is my word that goes out of my mouth: it will not return to me void, but it will accomplish that which I please, and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do (World English Bible).

God’s word is not powerless; It is only powerless when unspoken. So, speak the Word of God.
Because You can Have what You Say!

Family Band Sings Elvis Medley Of 'That's Alright' and 'Blue Suede Shoes'

Check out this talented family band sing an Elvis Medley of 'That's Alright' and 'Blue Suede Shoes' right from their living room. “Tonight we have a double whammy of Elvis hits! We played a mashup of two early Elvis songs which happened to be two of our favorites. We hope you enjoy this two for one!” reads the caption of the video on YouTube. “This is Colt Clark and the Quarantine Kids playing, ‘That’s Alright’ and ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ by Elvis Presley.” The Clark family is made up of Colt, a professional musician, Aubree, a photographer, and their three children. They homeschool their two sons and daughter, and part of what they do together is learn to play a new song every day. They decided to record some of their performances and share them online, and we are so happy that they did. Because this family band is just so fun to watch! At the start of this video, the little girl introduces the family band before they start playing. Then the dad and his sons play their instruments while the dad sings. And the daughter is in the middle of the group where she dances and mouths the words of the song. What a cutie! ‘That’s Alright’ by Elvis Presley is the first song of the performance. “Well, that's all right, mama, that's all right for you, that's all right mama, just anyway you do Well, that's all right, that's all right, that's all right now mama, anyway you do” This was Elvis Presley’s first commercial recording for Sun Records, and some music historians consider it the first song of the rock and roll genre. The next song the family band sings is ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ by Elvis Presley. “Well, it's one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, now go, cat, go. But don't you step on my blue suede shoes. You can do anything but lay off of my Blue suede shoes.” This part of the performance, the little girl picks up a tambourine and shaker to add to the drums and guitar. One of the boys also has an electric guitar solo, and he is so good! What a talented family! We hope you enjoyed watching them perform these two Elvis songs today!

1Achord Trio Puts Gospel Spin On 'Everybody Hurts' For AGT Quarterfinals

Check out this amazing performance where the 1Achord trio puts a gospel spin on the song ‘Everybody Hurts’ for the America’s Got Talent Quarterfinals. “We’ve been on this wild ride ever since we auditioned for America’s Got Talent,” says one of the members of the group at the beginning of the video. The three men met just a month and a half before their first AGT audition, but they found something so special when they combined their talents. “They have been my bestest friends ever since we met,” says one of the members. “Not only best friends but brothers.” “I definitely think that us coming together was just divine intervention,” says another member of the group. The three men of 1Achord all come from various church backgrounds, and they use music as a way of expressing themselves. They love to create arrangements where they give a gospel-twist to popular songs in a way that people have never heard before. And that’s exactly what they did when they sang their own soulful rendition of ‘Everybody Hurts’ in this clip! “When your day is long and the night, the night is yours alone When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on Don't let yourself go 'cause everybody cries, everybody hurts sometimes” One of the group members is playing the piano, and they are all dressed up in white. They all sound so amazing individually, and they sound especially wonderful when their voices blend together. “Wow! I don’t know what I was listening to! It’s like rock stars or gospel singers. It’s a combination of both. It’s spectacular!” says Sofia Vergars after 1Achord finished their performance. “Well, I think that this has been the best performance of the night so far. I think you guys are just magic. The harmonies, the leads, everything!” Simon Cowell says. “You are so talented.” What an incredible performance! We hope that you enjoyed watching 1Achord sing their hearts out in this clip today!

5 Brothers Charm The Judges With Smooth Singing Audition

There is something so beautiful and unique about the blend of voices from siblings. In this video five brothers charm the judges with a smooth singing audition. As the judges begin to inquire about the group auditioning, they discover that the five young men are all brothers. The judges ask to hear each of their names and ages. The oldest is Reese and he is 20. Then Aaron is 19, Carl is 17, Eden is 16, and the adorable youngest is named Emmanuel, and he is 11. Reese shares about how “at home, there is never a dull moment, there like dogs attacking the cats or everyone's dancing and mom’s shouting to keep the noise down.” The three youngest boys share a room together. The boys tell how they gather, practice, and dance. They share how they worked so hard and want to impress the judges and want “four big yeses.” The youngest boy blows a kiss to a judge and she hysterically catches it in her hands. The boys share that they are singing James Morrison, “You Give Me Something.” As they begin dancing and singing, each boy is incredibly talented. However, Simon stops the music and the judges ask if they have a second song because it felt a little down. The boys look emotional about the interruption. The group begins to sing “Little Things” by One Direction. The youngest, Emmanuel, begins to solo and the judges melt. Simon is the only judge to encourage the group to work more vocally. At the end, the boys get their four yeses. These young men show true brotherhood in this performance. The Bible encourages this kind of brotherhood of standing by one another and supporting the greater cause for Christ. “Let brotherly love continue." Hebrews 31:1

Security Camera Films Cat Welcoming Home Its Human

Pet videos are some of the cutest to watch. In this clip, a security camera films a cat welcoming home its human. At the start of this video, a voice shares, “Watch my cat's reaction, when I come home from work.” This clip shows how the owner caught his cat on the security camera when he arrived home. The cat stands up on her chair and jumps off onto the floor. She slowly walks towards the front door. Then, she hops up on the side table as the doorbell rings and responds with a meow. As the door opens a man walks in celebrating, “Hey, Hannah, hi!” The cat begins to get closer, move, and roll over on his feet, so happy to see her owner. He then holds her as she stretches backwards in a backbend. The man then kisses his elated pet. The reaction of this cat is what we all hope to receive when others welcome us. As believers, we are called to show hospitality. This means that we welcome others into not only our homes but into our lives. We can celebrate new faces and encourage the familiar ones. There is joy in bringing others into your life and sharing the great things and the hard things together. Community is a gift that God created from the very beginning. When we have the opportunity to welcome a loved one home or host a new friend, may we have the kind of zeal that this cat has for her owner. Abundant love comes from our Lord of abundance. “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling." 1 Peter 4:8-9

Daddy-Daughter Duet To 'Stand By Me' And 'My Girl'

Every once in a while you see true family talent and are amazed. This happened to me when I saw this adorable video of a daddy-daughter duet to “Stand by Me” and “My Girl.” Matt and Savanna Shaw are not your typical father and daughter. The two have begun singing together and sharing videos of their mash ups and music. At the start of this song, Savanna sings with a pure and crisp sound. Her dad joins in and the two have voices that naturally blend together. The pair are almost theatrical in their performance looking at each other endearingly and singing to one another and together. Matt begins singing “My Girl.” Then the two melodies blend in unity. It is both inspiring and mesmerizing listening to two powerhouse vocalists sing in perfect harmony. At the end of their strong duet, the two share a little bit more about their song. Savanna tells of how it was a really fun mash up. Matt adds, “How fun to have ‘Stand By Me,” and ‘My Girl’' be a daddy-daughter mashup. I feel like they should have always gone together.” The two give credit to a man named Stephen Nelson for arranging the song. This video reminds me of how truly wonderful the love of a father can be. God is called our Father many times in the Bible. The joy is that ultimately, our Heavenly Father loves us perfectly and He is always with us. “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him." 1 John 3:1

7-Year-Old Fights Bullying With Inspiring Messages

It takes a lot of courage to be vulnerable about our insecurities. Check out this video of a 7-year-old who fights bullying with inspiring messages. At the beginning of this clip, the young boy Rowyn Montgomery shares that he has a unibrow and he was made fun of for it at school. However, instead of letting that get him discouraged, he is using videos to help others know that they are special and uniquely made. He advises to “be kind, don’t be rude, don’t be obnoxious or anything like that, and believe in yourself.” This child is wise beyond his years. Rowyn is only seven years old but is already making the most of his time by sharing encouraging messages to others. He began making videos when he was only 4 years of age. He was unfortunately bullied as a 4-year-old in the classroom. He shares, “If you are going to a new grade and you are worried there’s going to be bullies, and if there is, you can tell them, ‘I’m myself, and since I’m in this grade, I can be myself. It doesn’t matter what other people think about me, it matters what I think about myself.” He ends the video by sharing that people are different in sizes and color and that everyone can be themselves. It is very upsetting to think about someone so young being picked on. However, the reality is that many of us have ungone bullying at some point in our lives. It can be a lonely place, but the Lord tells us that we are never alone. “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

NBA Star Jumps Into Pool To Save 2-Year-Old Son From Drowning

It’s a rare day when a person rescues someone, but it is even more uncommon when the heroic pursuit is done by a family member. In this video, an NBA star jumps into a pool to save his 2-year-old son from drowning. As the family is by the beautiful pool, the two-year-old and woman have their feet in the water. The young boy accidentally falls into the pool. The woman begins screaming and instantly Andre Drummond runs and jumps in after his son. Formerly a Laker, Andre signed recently with the Philadelphia 76ers. His athleticism is put to the test in this scary moment. He runs quickly and grabs his toddler, pulling him out of the water to the rescue. He is not only a father, but he is a hero. I think about how the young boy is unaware of the potential danger and falls into the pool helplessly in this video. His dad was watching him and went to take care of the boy and pull him out of danger. This is how our Heavenly Father loves us as well. We all have fallen into sin and are headed for destruction, but by His grace, through Jesus, we can be rescued from eternal death. That is our Great God. Jesus is our Hero. He is the one who saves our souls and gives us life. “He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from foes too mighty for me. They confronted me in my day of calamity, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into the open; He rescued me because He delighted in me.” Psalms 18:16-19

Orangutan Dons Sunglasses That Visitor Drops At The Zoo

Zoo guests got a treat when an orangutan donned sunglasses that one female visitor dropped at the zoo. In this TikTok video posted by Lola Testu, Lola and her companion enjoy the incredible and often funny behaviors of God’s creatures. This orangutan does not disappoint! Lola is visiting a zoo in Indonesia when she accidentally drops her sunglasses into the lush, green orangutan enclosure. A caption in blue and a narrator-type voice announces the dilemma right at the start. While we aren’t given information about how long the shades have been resting on the grass, the video plays only a few seconds before the furry, female primate discovers them. She lumbers across a little stream of water and plops down near the glasses. We hear Lola’s voice while she watches in amazement as the orangutan reaches for the glasses, picks them up, and seems almost ready to eat them. Lola notices that the glasses are now broken, but I think what comes next makes up for the lost glasses—whether they are designer or dollar store. We next see the orangutan seated atop a large rock with her baby orangutan. She works with the glasses to get them positioned properly, first putting them on upside down and then facing outward. And, without too much effort aside from the tiny, precious paw of her curious offspring, she gets them placed just right. Lola and her male friend recognize that the orangutan has figured out how the glasses work, and Lola comments that “this is gold.” She’s kinda right! In the final bits of the video, mother and child have relocated to a giant tree limb, and we see momma Orangutan fling the sunglasses back toward the direction where she discovered them. Maybe, she’s not worried about eye damage or under-eye wrinkles. Or, perhaps, she grew weary of her little one monkeying around with her spectacles. In any case, she’s done with them and probably much happier with the twig of greenery that is tossed right back to her in response! Thanks, Lola, for sharing your experience! It was a delight! “God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:25
